Retaining your clients

It is always good practice to recommend your clients to appoint you as their financial adviser to their trustees in the administration of their estate in their Will and in most cases they follow this recommendation. This protects your clients from having control of their assets and investments being ringfenced for their bank's or solicitor's in-house financial advisers and this can also earn you future commission income after the death of the client. It also improves client retention during the life of the client and can create new client referrals from the client's beneficiaries, executors and guardians.

 

A Source of new clients

Clients must have their Wills signed before two independent witnesses who cannot be relatives (one witness for Scotland). They are usually friends, colleagues at work, or neighbours and if they need to make a Will, they become second-generation clients. If the fact-find on a second-generation client discovers a financial product renewal or a need for a consultation, they are always referred back to you, the originating introducer, as a new warm-market client expecting your call.
